Having failed to sign a striker in the January to soften the blow of losing Harry Kane to injury, it’s probably fair to say Jose Mourinho wasn’t jumping around at Tottenham’s relatively quiet transfer window – Steven Bergwijn aside of course.
Since then, the Portuguese man has seen Heung-min Son and Bergwijn also fall down to significant injuries, and he will surely be ruing the fact that they couldn’t bring a number nine in. The lack of options meant Mourinho had to turn to Dele Alli as a make-shift centre-forward before all of football came to halt.

Whilst of course he will have an one eye on how developments pan out regarding this season, Mourinho will also surely be looking to plan ahead for the next campaign. And according to reports in recent weeks, the north Londoners are interested in bringing Marc Cucurella to the Premier League.
But in fresh developments from Spanish publication La Razon, Chelsea and Napoli have also entered the race to sign the £18m-rated left-back.
The update offers yet another reminder of the potentially disastrous consequences of Daniel Levy failing to be proactive and watching other teams swoop in ahead of them. If Mourinho and the scouting team have deemed Cucurella to be the man to bring in this summer, then delaying and holding off on a move will only see rivals like Chelsea take advantage.
After all, the club have already seen their London rivals beat them to the punch when it came to Willian all those years ago. Were Mourinho to miss out on yet another transfer target then there can be no doubt that Levy will be feeling the wrath of the Special One.
Not giving him what he wanted in January is one thing. But denying him a second time could spark a major confrontation.
Meanwhile, Spurs getting this star in exchange for Harry Kane would be genius.
